My NICU Graduate's JourneyBrielle was born spontaneously at 27 weeks old. And only a few days old it was discovered that she had a rare case of E. coli meningitis, which affected her brain leading her to have brain surgery aT only four months old. Brielle has had every type of issue with preemie baby could have, but she has overcome each and every obstacle thrown away, including flatlining a couple of times. Although she has a cyst in her brain from the meningitis,Brielle is now a thriving eight-year-old who is in second grade at her charter school and loves to read.
What makes you proud of you NICU graduate?I am so proud of my NICU graduate because she has overcome all odds against her. She thrives to be the best that she can be and she’s the sweetest soul you’ll ever meet. I love how tenacious she is no matter what she’s doing. I love that. She doesn’t let any of her delays limit her ability to keep up with other children, her age and older. I love how well she does in school and I love how much she likes to help other people.
