NICU Hospital for my journeyBrooke Army Medical Center (BAMC)
My NICU Graduate's JourneyI had to be induced at 34 wks due to severe preeclampsia. I had an emergency c-section due to his heart rate dropping. We were both lucky to survive his birth. He stayed at BAMC NICU for 6 days and then was transferred to Methodist Hospital NICU in San Antonio for another 7 days. He had a feeding tube placed nasally originally and then orally. His was on bilirubin lights and had an IV in his wrist then forehead. I advocated for the feeding tube to be removed as I felt it was more of a convenience than a necessity. Finally, with all tubes and lines removed and him thriving, he got to go home and be with all of us!
What makes you proud of you NICU graduate? We are so very proud of Jordan. The entire pregnancy was a struggle. We lost his twin in the first trimester. I had SVT in the second trimester and had to have my heart “rebooted”. Then in the last trimester I had severe preeclampsia and had to deliver early. He fought and stayed strong through all of that. Then in the NICU each time we had a setback he fought and overcame those as well. He is now the tallest in his grade, so smart, and thriving.
