NICU Hospital for my journeyCook Children’s Medical Center
My NICU Graduate's JourneyOur daughter's 131-day NICU stay at Cook's Children's was an uphill battle that showcased her incredible strength. Born with a PDA (Patent Ductus Arteriosus), she underwent a procedure where a Piccolo device was used to close it, a moment of immense relief. She also contracted pneumonia, a serious setback, but she fought hard and overcame it with the help of the dedicated medical team.
To ensure she received the nutrition she needed, a G-button was placed, a decision made to support her growth and development. The NICU became our temporary home, five hours away from our home, adding to the emotional and logistical challenges. We navigated the complexities of medical terminology, celebrated small victories, and leaned on the support of family and friends.
Despite the distance and the hurdles, our love for our daughter grew stronger each day. We learned invaluable lessons about resilience, the importance of medical care, and the power of prayer. Her journey was a testament to her strength, and we were filled with gratitude for the care she received. The day we finally brought her home was a moment we will cherish forever.
What makes you proud of you NICU graduate? We’re incredibly proud of our daughter because of her strength, resilience, and unwavering spirit. She has faced significant challenges with remarkable courage and determination, inspiring us every step of the way. Her ability to overcome obstacles and maintain a positive attitude makes us admire her deeply. She brings so much joy and light into our life.
