NICU Hospital for my journeyArkansas Children's Hospital
My NICU Graduate's JourneyDallas's journey into the world began at 34 weeks. His heartrate dropped down to 50, and he was born via emergency c-section. When he was born, he was not breathing. It took 18 minutes to resuscitate him. He was then medflighted from UAMS to Arkansas Children's Hospital. Due to the lack of oxygen to his brain for an extended time, Dallas was put in a cooling therapy for a couple of days, and his temp was brought up slowly. He was monitored for seizures but did not have any. He was taken for an MRI to check for any brain damage. He did not have any. We spent 42 days in the NICU working on feeding, getting him to gain weight, and being monitored. It was a challenging time, but our little fighter did great.
What makes you proud of you NICU graduate?Dallas is an amazing little boy. Though he had a rough start and has had a few developmental delays, he has been a little champ. He is kind-hearted and loving. His NICU stay gave him the chance to thrive, and he is living life to the fullest.
