My NICU Graduate's Journey
Born at only 22 weeks and 4 days, little Theo was about to embark on a wild rollercoaster ride in the NICU. His twin brother arrived three days before him, but sadly his tiny body couldn’t handle being out in the big world too early. Theo was tough though. He proved to his doctors and nurses that he was meant to be here by overcoming every single obstacle that he was faced with. Yes, his lungs weren’t mature enough. Yes, he was susceptible to all kinds of infections. Yes, he needed blood. Yes, he needed help closing the tiny hole in his heart. But he overcame all of them. You hear the phrase “tiny but mighty”, but that doesn’t even compare to the firsthand experience as a new parent and mother how strong my little Theo is.

What makes you proud of you NICU graduate?
Not only did he defy the odds of making it out of the NICU, but he continues to break down obstacles even after leaving the NICU. We’re still navigating the bumps of catching up to those that are his actual age, but that only gives us more motivation. Theo continues to make progress each and everyday. I’m in awe of his growth and who he is becoming. Theo is the strongest person I know and has dealt with more than the typical human has to. He’s an inspiration to me and those around him. A true miracle in my eyes.
