NICU Hospital for my journeySt. David's Medical Center
My NICU Graduate's JourneyMy son was born at just 28 weeks, weighing only 1 lb 12 oz. He was diagnosed with lung and heart disease, Trisomy 21, and was born with an imperforate anus. His first eight months were spent in the NICU across three different hospitals. Over time, he underwent a total of seven surgeries — the most significant being open-heart surgery and an exploratory procedure.
This journey was incredibly tough, but with the help of Jesus and the support from Hand to Hold, I was able to make it through mentally, emotionally, and physically. I also met some amazing parents along the way, and we’ve remained connected ever since.
What makes you proud of you NICU graduate? Now, my son is about to turn six in June, and we couldn’t be more proud. He is thriving and so healthy — doing things doctors once thought he might never do.
