My NICU Graduate's Journey G has the best personality! He is almost always happy and smiling. He loves music! He has a complex medical history. He was born at 34 weeks. No prenatal care. Positive for amphetamines and cocaine, had to be treated for withdrawal.- spina bifida (myelmeningocele) - chiari 2 malformation- hydrocephalus- paraplegic - sox lll (rare genetic disorder)- WDR81 (rare genetic disorder) - brain and spinal cord syrinx - hernias - epilepsy - GERD/Reflux - oxygen dependent - NEHI (rare lung disorder) - low muscle tone - developmental delay - nephrocalcinosis - Trach and vent dependent - scoliosis - central sleep apnea - immune disorder that requires IVIG once a month. He has 13 medications to take twice a day - Some help open his lungs. He needs a cough assist and vest treatment with his nebulized meds. He has had 16 surgeries, 10 have been just for VP Shunt revisions.
What makes you proud of you NICU graduate?Our family is beyond proud of how strong our super hero is. G has come a long way. We are so excited to watch him continue to grow and learn.
