My NICU Graduate's Journey
Our lil warrior was born at 27 weeks (3 months early) weighing at 2 lbs 4 oz and 11 in long. He spent 158 days/5 months in the NICU with a lot of questionable moments and a lot of mountains to climb and bumps to cross over. He was moved from his birth hospital in Cherokee County to Scottish Rite in Atlanta due to some complications. He was born with fistula that was connected from his bladder to his rectum. he ended up having to have surgery due to the blockage in his pee tube and he had a vesicostmy placed and still is current to this day. It always seem like it was 3 step forward, and 5 steps back, a roller coaster for sure. He was diagnosed with a large blood clot on his brain and a saddle clot on his pulmonary artery and by the grace of God both were cleared by the time he was able to be sent home and graduated. He was placed on a conventional vent and then shortly after was put on an oscillator vent then put back on a conventional vent and on July 4 of 2022 he was taken off the vent and put on room air, which is what he came home with. After countless sleep studies, he finally passed his sleep study this past year and has been off of all oxygen.

What makes you proud of you NICU graduate?
Our little 2 pound a little miracle & warrior has accomplished so much in his little life time that you and I probably would never have to go through or it would take a lifetime for us to go through. He has fought so hard since day one and never gave up on life. He has had so many bumps in the road to get over and he does with a smile on his face and more maintains to climb without hesitation and again with a smile on his face. He is the most fierce lil boy ever and never gives up.
