NICU Hospital for my journeyUniversity Of Mississippi Medical Center
My NICU Graduate's JourneyBraeden was born at 25 weeks. Weighing one pound and six ounces. He resided in the NICU from birth (January 14, 2012) until May of 2012. During the earlier stages, Braeden required specialized care, including monitoring, feeding, and respiratory support. Unable to produce milk, I signed for Braeden to be a donor recipient. I was faced with a fear that I’ve never experienced. I also had faith that surpassed that fear. With all the challenges that Braeden was faced with, he fought. He fought hard. Every day seemed to be touch and go. But I felt a sense of relief each and every time I was blessed to see his little face. As time progressed, Braeden gradually moved towards independence and eventually met the criteria for discharge. He still requires ongoing medical care and therapy, including regular checkups with pediatricians and specialists. With the support of family, friends and that same NICU staff, he’s doing better than ever.
What makes you proud of you NICU graduate?Braeden’s resilience, growth, determination and a will to live and face whatever challenges comes his way makes me proud.
