My NICU Graduate's JourneyJoshua’s NICU journey is one of strength, resilience, and unwavering determination. Born at just 24 weeks and weighing only 1 lb 6.9 oz, Joshua faced overwhelming odds from the very start. We spent 161 days in the NICU—days filled with hope, fear, and countless prayers. During that time, we built strong and lasting relationships with many of the incredible nurses who cared for him like family.
When Joshua finally graduated from the NICU in May 2017, he went home with a G-tube and on oxygen. But by October of that same year, he had come off both—an incredible milestone that spoke volumes about his strength and willpower.
Though he continues to face some health challenges, Joshua is now thriving. He is currently in the 2nd grade and continues to amaze us with his progress and determination every single day. His journey is a powerful reminder of how far he’s come and the incredible possibilities ahead.
What makes you proud of you NICU graduate?I am proud of Joshua for his incredible strength, perseverance, and joyful spirit. From the moment he entered the world fighting for every breath, he has shown a resilience far beyond his years. Despite starting life with so many challenges—including months in the NICU, a feeding tube, and oxygen—Joshua has never stopped pushing forward.
What makes me most proud is his determination to thrive, no matter the obstacle. He approaches life with courage and curiosity, and even through ongoing health struggles, he continues to grow, learn, and inspire those around him. Seeing him now in 2nd grade, smiling, learning, and living fully, reminds me daily of just how far he’s come—and how limitless his future truly is.
