NICU Hospital for my journeyAurora Baycare and Children's Hospital of Wisconsin
My NICU Graduate's JourneyMy twins, Wyatt and Clint were born 10 weeks premature. Wyatt was resuscitated, had a collapsed lung and had a grade 4 brain bleed and developed Hydrocephalus. The day after this picture was taken, they were 2 1/2 wks old and Wyatt was transferred to Childrens Hospital NICU where he had his 1st brain surgery when he was 1 month old. Clint came home with oxygen when he was 1 month and 1 week old. Wyatt was a week shy of 2 months old when he came home. It was a tough journey having them in different hospitals over 2 hours apart and a nearly 6 year old daughter at home which was 40 minutes from the hospital they were born at. We lived in 3 cities.
Both hospitals had wonderful NICUs and we had one very special nurse at each one. One nurse from Childrens is still in our lives and we have yearly NICU reunions with her and another family with a child she cared for. We had a little war going on as she is a Packers fan and I am a Cowboys fan. I dressed Wyatt in a Cowboys outfit and then one day I walked into Wyatts pod and found him dressed in Packers stuff that the nurse dressed him up in. That was a special memory during our journey but both boys coming home was the best.
What makes you proud of you NICU graduate? Both make me proud. They went through so much and still go through alot with their health. Wyatt meets with a neurosurgeon yearly and has had 3 total surgeries related to his Hydrocephalus. They are little miracles and amazing young men and i will always be proud of them.
