My NICU Graduate's JourneyJameson was born at 28+1 on January 12, 2023. His early birth was due to a PPROM, a failed cerclage, and placental infection. Jameson weighed 2 lb 8.6 oz and was 15 1/2 inches long at birth. His greatest challenges were learning to breathe on his own, a meconium plug, and feeding struggles. We spent 65 days in the NICU. Despite all of his challenges, Jameson was discharged without the need for oxygen support, weighed 5 lb 10 oz, and was taking bottles like a champ. After discharge he had to have inguinal hernia repair surgery, visits to the pulmonologist for ongoing chronic lung issues due to mild Brochopulmonary Dysplagia, a nephrologist monitoring kidneys for proteinuria and hydronephrosis, a helmet to correct plagiocephaly, and bi annual development tracking. We are so fortunate to be able to say that our former 28 weeker has met or exceeded milestones and is a healthy, growing boy.
What makes you proud of your NICU graduate?Jameson's favorite things are playing guitar, singing, drawing and doing his dolls' hair. Jameson is brave, confident, kind smart, and inquisitive. Jameson is an animal lover, a light enthusiast, an outdoorsman, and tinkerer. He is our hero and we are incredibly proud of all he has overcome and all he continues to do. Jameson has always beat to his own drum and does everything in his own time, from birth to now. Our 3 year old is a warrior and he is unstoppable.
