My NICU Graduate's Journey
The day Bodie was born started as any normal day. We were up at my parents in Crockett getting 1 last weekend at Papa and Gaga’s in before the “arrival” of baby brother. I started to feel strong pressure on my lower abdomen moving positions didn’t help, standing made it worse. Then came the nausea, the lightheadedness, the clammy sweats, the cramping and entire belly pain Upon the phone nurses orders I took Tylenol and tried a hot bath but nothing worked. My momma instincts kicked in and to the hospital we went. 2.5 hrs later we arrived to the hospital where I nearly fainted getting into a room. Upon trying to figure out what was wrong, they couldn’t find his heartbeat. I could feel my heart sinking. But then a faint 67 bmp heart rate was found and I was RUSHED into emergency delivery. I had a placental detachment, uterine rupture, 1 liter of free floating blood in my abdomen and was hemorrhaging all without a clue! Once the Dr found Bodie he had to be resuscitated on the delivery table and was placed on the highest oxygen support possible. Bodie spent 48 days in the NICU overcoming heart episodes, infections and unknown allergies. Our little miracle!

What makes you proud of your NICU graduate?
What makes me most proud of Bodie is his determination and happiness! Bodie has not been handed the easiest of hands, but he was given was an infectious smile. One that he uses his whole body when he shows it off. Bodie has recently been diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, which has given him a whole new set of obstacles to overcome. Bodie has already shown a determination that I am confident he will crush whatever else life decides to throw at him! Doing so with a smile that will make your heart swell!
