My NICU Graduate's Journey
On February 22, 2026, Hudson’s story began with a mother’s instinct. At 5:00 AM, Victoria woke up knowing something was wrong after noticing Hudson was no longer moving like he always had. She and her husband, Nick, rushed to the hospital where doctors discovered Hudson’s umbilical cord was wrapped tightly around his neck three times. An emergency C section was performed, and Hudson entered the world at 36 weeks weighing 5 pounds 15 ounces. Within hours, he turned blue and limp, began having seizures, and was transferred to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, where imaging revealed a massive brain hemorrhage. At just 3 days old, Hudson underwent emergency brain surgery to save his life. During those terrifying early days, doctors prepared his family for the worst and even discussed taking Hudson home on hospice care.

Today, Hudson is home and continues to show incredible strength every single day. Despite everything he has endured, he is eating well, growing, smiling, becoming more alert, and making progress through therapy and constant support from his family. His journey is far from over, though. Hudson will require ongoing physical and occupational therapy, specialist appointments, continued monitoring, and another future brain surgery as doctors work to give him every opportunity to thrive and reach his milestones.

What makes you proud of your NICU graduate?
His determination, strength, and resilience. He has truly defied all odds stacked against him and every single time a doctor told us that he couldn’t do something the next day Hudson would wake up and do the exact thing we were told he would never be able to do. He truly is remarkable in every way possible and continues to strive and prove everyone wrong.
