NICU Hospital for my journey
St David’s North Austin Medical Center

My NICU Graduate's Journey
Our NICU journey began unexpectedly when our son arrived at just 30 weeks and 3 days gestation. Due to a shortened cervix, an infection, and an early rupture of my water, doctors feared the infection may have spread to his umbilical cord. Everything changed so quickly. Instead of bringing our baby home, we were suddenly facing the unimaginable watching him fight from inside a NICU room.

For 54 long days, the NICU became our second home. Leaving the hospital without my baby was one of the hardest things I have ever experienced. The silence of coming home without him felt unbearable, and every day was filled with worry, hope, and prayers for progress.

But from the very beginning, our son showed us exactly who he was a fighter. Despite arriving so early, he showed strength and resilience every single day. We learned to celebrate every milestone, no matter how small, and hold onto hope through every setback.

Now, when we look at our thriving NICU graduate, we see so much more than how far he has come we see courage. His story reminds us that even the tiniest babies can be incredibly strong. The same resilient spirit he showed in the NICU is the same joyful, determined energy he carries today, and we couldn’t be prouder of our little miracle.

What makes you proud of your NICU graduate?
What makes me most proud of my NICU graduate is his resilience. From the moment he entered this world at 30 weeks and 3 days, he faced challenge after challenge with a strength far bigger than his tiny body. Through a difficult NICU stay, he kept fighting, growing, and proving everyone just how strong he was. Seeing him now thriving, happy, and full of life reminds me daily of everything he overcame.
