My NICU Graduate's JourneyArriving at 27 weeks Landon was tiny, fragile and already a fighter. From the beginning he showed a resilience that amazed everyone around him. Surrounded by lights and steady monitors he was cared for by an extraordinary team of nicu nurses and doctors who treated him with both skill and tenderness. We celebrated every tiny victory - a steady heartbeat, a little more weight etc. Their compassion became part of his healing. Slowly he grew stronger. The hematoma faded, the hernia became manageable and his body accepted the transfusions. Landon transformed from a fragile preemie into a determined little warrior. When he finally graduated he carried with him a story of courage, hope and the power of exceptional care. His journey is proof that even the smallest can have the biggest strength.
What makes you proud of your NICU graduate? What makes me proud of my son is everything about who he is and who he's becoming. After everything he fought through, watching him grow into a strong, curious, joyful two year old feels like witnessing a miracle. Every new word, every milestone he reaches, every little thing he discovers it fills me with pride. Hos determination, personality, laughter and even the small every day moments remind me of how far he has come.
