My NICU Graduate's Journey
Arden Marie entered this world at just 24 weeks old, weighing barely more than a pound, yet from her very first breath she showed the heart of a fighter. Her journey through the NICU was filled with moments no parent could ever prepare for — terrifying alarms, countless procedures, infections, brain bleeds, breathing machines, and endless uncertainty. Alongside every setback, however, came proof of her incredible resilience.

While grieving the loss of her twin brother, Shepherd James McAdam, our family learned what true strength looks like through Arden’s tiny body. Day after day, she continued to kick, stretch, hold our fingers, and fight her way forward. Even during the hardest nights, she reminded us that hope can exist beside heartbreak.

The NICU taught us that miracles are not always loud. Sometimes miracles are a stable oxygen level, a successful feeding, a tiny hand gripping your finger, or finally hearing doctors speak with hope instead of fear. Arden’s journey showed us the power of faith, perseverance, and unconditional love. She taught us to celebrate every ounce gained, every peaceful night, and every milestone others may overlook.


What makes you proud of your NICU graduate?
From the moment she entered the world at only 24 weeks, kicking and screaming, we knew Arden was a fighter. In the NICU, she showed her personality through her kicks, punches, stubbornness, and fierce spirit.

As she has grown, Arden continues to amaze me with her resilience. Every milestone she reaches feels extraordinary because of everything she has overcome to get there. Watching her laugh, roll over, scoot around, eat solids, and explore the world fills me with overwhelming gratitude and pride. She has taught me more about courage, patience, and faith than I ever thought possible.

Arden’s journey proves that strength is not measured by size. She is truly the strongest person I know, and I am endlessly proud to be her mother.
