My NICU Graduate's Journey
From the moment I found out I was pregnant with my little miracle baby it was a journey. At 12 weeks I was told that I had an incompetent cervix and to get a cerclage at just 14 weeks pregnant. I had this done in a previous pregnancy and it failed and unfortunately, I lost that pregnancy at 21 weeks. The thought of going through this process again traumatized me. Thankfully everything went well up until I was about 28 weeks pregnant and was diagnosed with super imposed preeclampsia. I was admitted into the hospital into anti-partum where I stayed for over a month until my condition worsened and was rushed into an emergency C-section at just 31 weeks and two days pregnant. I remember asking the doctors over and over was I gonna lose my baby and they told me that I was in great hands and I’ll be meeting my daughter shortly. I was terrified and alone through the whole process but at 8:29pm on 1/7/ 26 I met my daughter, who was soon rushed away for respiratory support. We spent 36 hard days in the NICU and I am so grateful for the nurses, hands to hold, and all the hospital staff for the job that they do because I would’ve never been able to be as strong as I had to be during that time.

What makes you proud of your NICU graduate?
The progress she’s made since being home. She is such a strong baby.
