My NICU Graduate's JourneyKyrian was born at 34 weeks and 4 days on January 10, 2023, after a high-risk pregnancy and an unexpected emergency C-section. Before he was born, we learned he likely had Down syndrome and later confirmed his diagnosis with an amniocentesis. He also had congenital heart defects that made his journey even more complex.
Kyrian spent 156 days in the hospital fighting through challenges most people could never imagine. He underwent open-heart surgery at just 6 weeks old to repair his VSD and ASD, spent time in the CICU, battled feeding and breathing difficulties, and eventually received a feeding tube to help him grow and thrive. Despite everything, Kyrian never lost his joyful spirit.
Today, he is the happiest little boy who loves making people laugh, dancing, Ms. Rachel, and Pixar’s Cars. He has taught us what true strength and resilience look like. Kyrian’s journey has inspired so many people, and we are endlessly proud of how far he has come.
What makes you proud of your NICU graduate?Kyrian amazes us every single day with his strength, resilience, and joy. After 87 days in the NICU and 156 total days in the hospital — including open-heart surgery and feeding challenges — he still greets the world with the biggest smile. He loves making people laugh, dancing, and spreading happiness everywhere he goes. Watching him overcome so many obstacles while remaining so full of love and personality makes us incredibly proud to be his parents. Kyrian has taught us that strength doesn’t always look loud — sometimes it looks like a little boy who refuses to give up.
