NICU Hospital for my journeySt. David’s Medical Center Austin
My NICU Graduate's JourneyOllie was born at 25weeks, we were airlifted from our local hospital into Austin, I (mom) became eclamptic with my autoimmune disease damaging my kidneys into severe failure. Oliver was delivered in an emergency cesarean weighing only 1lb 6oz, had under developed lungs and was in isolation for a few weeks for an infection and we weren’t able to hold him for that time, after 4 months in the NICU he finally came home still on oxygen. Just after turning one in April he was able to meet all his 8 month markers, and even some 9 and 12 month markers. He no longer needs weekly physical therapy, occupational therapy, or feeding therapy. He is still on oxygen at night but hoping to be 100% off that this month!
What makes you proud of your NICU graduate? That despite all the unexpected and unknown he is developing into his true age. That despite all he had to go throw when he should have been safely and comfortably growing in me he kept progressing.
