My NICU Graduate's JourneyJeneca was born at 37 weeks. Both her and mom had a fever exceeding 106° F, mom was barely coherent during a natural birth. Infection had been introduced into the amniotic sack weeks prior, on top of meconium being present as well. There was little to no progression in Labor, we came back to L&D several times and went home again, and again. Jeneca was finally born, but was so quiet, so worn out and with such a high fever. Mom passed out and couldn't fully come to for a couple days. Dad took the best care of her while hooked up to way too many monitors and IVs alongside the help of some pretty great NICU nurses. Jeneca is the most amazing, creative, imaginative, published author and illustrator, content creator, AuDHD Superhuman with 3 little sisters, that she is so protective over. She is a pure soul, a sensitive, empathetic, and nurturing kid. But ready to stand her ground and back anyone who needs empowering, and she won't go for any injustices. Jeneca is the greatest kid, our warrior girl, she's still quiet, a little calm, still a fighter and after all the life has thrown at her, she creates laughter wherever she goes.
What makes you proud of your NICU graduate? She has over come SO MUCH since the moment she was born. Unknown conditions, testing, evaluation, medications, therapies surgery. She is incredibly resilient, funny, kind and creative.
