NICU Hospital for my journeyCarilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital
My NICU Graduate's JourneyI had a difficult pregnancy due to my epilepsy and hypertension. I was in the hospital for two stays before having Milo and ultimately ended up having him at 34 weeks. I was seeing a maternal fetal medicine doctor and they determined it wasn’t safe for him to stay in any longer. Milo stayed in the NICU for 13 days. Other babies around him had been there for much longer. I don’t know how parents were doing it, I was praying for myself and them. Each day I would come in and ask the same question, what did we have to do to get Milo home. He was slowly, but surely meeting those goals. It was very difficult for me at home because we were an hour away from the hospital, my husband had to go back to work, I had to find someone to drive me because of my c-section, I was up all night pumping milk with no baby there, etc. Those were the two hardest weeks of my life, but the day they told me that sweet boy could come home… those were the best words I’ve ever heard!!! I’m so thankful to the Lord that my healthy guy is doing great things and is about to graduate preschool!
What makes you proud of your NICU graduate? What makes me most proud of Milo is his sweet heart. I could never be more proud of how he treats others at only 5-years-old. I ask myself did we as his parents teach him to be this type of person or did he just come out this way. I can’t wait to see the person he continues to grow up to be.
