My NICU Graduate's JourneyAnthony was born at 29 weeks due to complications. He weighed 780 grams and was considered a micro preemie +. The doctors were stunned that his lungs were almost fully developed and needed very little help with breathing when he came out. He developed an allergy to dairy and had some complications with his intestines. We had to work hard to learn how to take a bottle and then on day 109 we got to go home. Still on a feeding tube but off all oxygen and other help.
What makes you proud of your NICU graduate? With some twists and bumps this micro preemie is now almost 6 years old and loves soccer, school, and swimming. He changes between wanting to be a firefighter, paramedic or a professional soccer player when he grows up. He just read his first Dr. Seuss book on his own and is swimming with his head underwater! He is always going and loves to be active outside. Whether it's at the park, lake, on a hike, or playing soccer he always does his best.
