My NICU Graduate's Journey
Ryleigh demanded her entry into this world at 29 weeks. Other than low birth weight, 1lb 15oz, she was having brady episodes while in the NICU. She didn’t show any signs of being a preemie other than this, but she did remain in the NICU for two months. After being home a few weeks, we realized Ryleigh was having seizures. Under the care of her pediatric neurologist, Ryleigh overcame her seizures and is now 4.5 years seizure free. At 1 year, while under the care of a developmental specialist since she was a preemie, it was noted that Ry was having developmental delays. She wasn’t speaking and not maturing at the level of other toddlers her age. At 2.5, Ry was diagnosed with Autism, Level 2, Non-verbal. She has been a warrior taking ABA classes, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy and is a few days away from completing her 4k program. As she prepares to go to Transitional Kindergarten, she is finding her voice. She also just finished her first year of Challenger T-ball, a league for special needs children.

What makes you proud of your NICU graduate?
My daughter is my greatest miracle and my biggest inspiration. Born too far early, she entered this world fighting with a strength that amazed everyone around her. From the very beginning, she showed us what true resilience looks like. Today, she continues to overcome challenges in her own beautiful way. Although she is autistic and nonverbal, her personality shines brighter than words ever could. Her sassiness, determination, and the way she expresses love and joy makes every day special. She has taught me patience, unconditional love, and how to celebrate every milestone, no matter how small. I am proud of her courage, her progress and the unique light she brings into this world. She may communicate differently, but she speaks volumes through her strength, spirit and smile.
