My NICU Graduate's Journey
The morning of November 30, 2016, Sydney’s mom, Tranell, started having contractions but since this was her first pregnancy, she didn’t know she was having contractions. Sydney’s other mom, Liana, suggested they call the doctor that night and it was recommended they come to Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest as soon as possible just to get checked out. Sydney was born December 1, 2016, at 24 weeks 1 day gestation via emergency c-section. She weighed 1 lb 9 oz and measured 13.5 inches long. Her due date was 3/22/2017. We were told she wouldn’t cry and her eyes would still be shut when she was born. Sydney didn’t cry because her lungs were still too small but her eyes were wide open when they wheeled her by us on her way to the NICU. We were told not to expect her to be ready to go home until after her due date. However, just as she was born on her own time, she was ready to go home 2 weeks before her due date on 3/8/2017.

What makes you proud of your NICU graduate?
Sydney is excelling in school and has made a lot of friends. She loves art, music, and math. She is always singing or humming and drawing. She is sweet, caring, helpful and loving. She has earned Student of the Month a few times each year since 1st grade. We are so proud of her!
