My NICU Graduate's JourneyHe was born early at 31 weeks, weighing in just over 2lbs. He had a short time on the ventilator and made his was through other respiratory support devices during his 6 week stay. Having a NICU in town was helpful for us to still be available to our other son who was 3 at the time and struggling with why we were leaving him frequently and not returning with his brother. Today Caleb is a very active child with no deficits from being born early and doing very well in school where he shines as a readers. His NICU journey encouraged me to broaden my respiratory therapy career to include children, I now work in the NICU he was hospitalized in. We join in the hospitals annual NICU reunion where past patients and family come to spend time with the staff who cared for them during their most difficult time.
What makes you proud of your NICU graduate? He knows no limit and is willing to try anything at least one.
