Spencer came to us as one of a litter of four kittens, plus mamacat, we agreed to foster for Nine Lives. Mamacat decided early on that it was all too much for her, so we returned her to NL and took over the care and feeding of the litter ourselves. Stressful but very rewarding. When the kittens were of age for adoption, we returned them to the shelter and headed off on a three-week vacation. Upon return, we checked in: “Anybody left?” we asked. Well, there he was, the one little guy, so we brought him home and he has lit our lives for 10 years.

Spencer specializes in being adorable. He likes to carry things around the house in his mouth, sometimes dragging big things, like sticks, across the floor. One night, he carried a succession of increasingly big stuffed animals from a bedroom shelf to the den at the opposite end of the house. The last object, a battery operated pig called “Jambon”, weighed more than Spencer, but he dragged it by an ear and dropped it at our feet. An heroic effort by an amazing kitty.
