Teddy was rescued at 13 months old from a rescue in Atlanta. Giselle was adopted at (we think) 10-11 months old from jail (a kill shelter...BARC...not bad place. But it is an over-full kill shelter). Teddy was in pretty good shape when adopted. Socialized. Needed a day at the salon. Giselle, however, had come from a horrible life of cruelty and actual abuse. She immediately attached herself to me, her mom, and my son. Although my husband met her with us in the shelter, he was on a business trip for a week the day my son and I were allowed to pick her up after being spayed. (Four days after meeting). They shelter was so kind and allowed me to visit the day before surgery to bathe her, groom her, and love on her for almost five hours. She was completely covered in fleas, matting, dried urine and feces.
