Story behind your photo
This is Soul he was a rescue but came at a time when his new daddy lost his parents and he was deep in grief. He showed up at our door by a friend who could not keep him. He came as "Sol" his first family, but I added the "U" for us. He became a part of our souls. We built our lives around him. He was loved at puppy camp, his vet and loved by area children and was the epitome of the "nanny dog". But we lived in a place where people wanted to harm him, tease him to see if he would respond because of his bully breed. I used to do puppy events but people would pull away because they judged him due to public perception. During walks unleashed dogs would go after him. He would not defend himself. Finally we just kept our home for us three, put up a second fence so they couldn't see our beautiful pup. My mom would always say he had " people eyes" and he would connect his gaze to yours as you spoke with him and look away when finished. You were a part of his pack if you would permit him to at least once accept a slobbery loving kiss on your face. We never left him for more than 3 hours just as though he were our mature child. Soul overflowed with love and absorbed so much stress and hardship transmuting it back into unconditional love. At Puppy camp he became a pup councilor keeping the littlest pups in line with one purposeful bark and they would fall into line. As he got older I remember the day he decided no more puppy camp. We dropped him off as usual then I came home and turned on the camp cameras only to see him sit at the gate waiting to go home not his usual behavior. So we jumped in the car and went to get our baby. He decided to be a home body now. So it was just us three, everyone gone, kids grown, his kitty Brady would leave after 5 years only to pass away from his adventures. I thought they would grow old together. Soul was like no other rescue or dog I would ever know. He truly came as an angel to brace us for many falls and painful moments. Those times I would cry in his neck and he would wait till I finished then lean over and lick my tears away. His presence always made things better. We were together 24/7 with both of us working from home. He again held love for us when his Uncle Chris passed away last fall unexpectedly. Then Soul was diagnosed with spleen cancer in late July and passed late August. We can't even process his loss as he was everywhere we were. His last breath on my nose, passing him from my arms to my mom's arms in heaven.
