Fourth of July week, 2005, I was on intake for NRGRR when this handsome, regal Golden named Juka was pulled from the Orange County shelter. At that time, the NRGRR foster list consisted of twenty individuals to call; there was no email list back then. With no one to foster Juka over the holiday, I picked him up from the vets and brought him home. He got an infection from his neuter surgery, so I decided to foster him until medically cleared. Juka, my first foster, EVER—but not my last! I fell in love immediately and Juka became my first “foster fail,” joining my pack with six-month-old Lab Cody (WCAS) and my cat Mooska. Since Juka, I have adopted three other NRGRR Goldens and fostered over seventy dogs for various rescues. Juka was six when adopted and lived to fourteen! A wonderful ambassador for NRGRR and a gift from God!
