I had already adopted a kitten named Alvin from the Oakville Humane Society. He was 5.5 months old. When he was 8 months we realized 1 cat was not enough, but I wasn’t sure I was ready for the commitment of two cats . Garfield was a foster from the Burlington Humane Society I found on the website while debating. I spoke with my children and we decided that maybe fostering would be a better idea. We went to the Burlington Humane Society Met Garfield. Less than a week later we took Garfield home as a foster. He wasn’t up for adoption yet as he hadn’t had his last appointment with the vet for a dental appointment. We had had him for about a month when he was clear for adoption. We were all excited for him. When the kids got home from school we talked about the fact that someone may see his picture online and want him. We quickly decided that he was already a part of our family and we couldn’t let him go. The next day I signed his adoption papers. As for the name Garfield, it suits him very well. He is definitely food motivated. This is him at 4:30 in the morning reminding me he needs his breakfast before I leave for work. 😻
