Annie was a breeder dog in a puppy mill. The first night we got her, we walked her around our fenced in yard on a leash. She had never walked on grass before! As she pranced along, she pulled on her leash, panicked and slipped both her leash and collar. She slipped through the fence and disappeared in Whetstone Park. While we saw her periodically, she was too afraid to come to us or let us approach her.

She was rescued by a Good Samaritan the next morning and we were notified that she had been found. She was deeply traumatized by both her history in a puppy mill and this experience. For years to come, she was terrified of unfamiliar situations and people and would hide in her crate....her safe place. Slowly she began to trust and her fear subsided. Patience, unconditional love, structure and safe boundaries saved this beautiful pup.
