This is my parakeet Dio, less than an hour before I had her put to sleep. As a youngster, Dio survived lead poisoning; but as a result of the ingestion, she had nerve damage in her feet and couldn't really use them. Despite her impairments, Dio was a tenacious and curious little bird - and also incredibly cute. I did not expect to get 11 wonderful years with her. In June, her body began to shut down from an illness, so I gave her peace. I miss Dio every day.
