Jake is a gorgeous mutt who loves to catch balls on the fly or bounce. Just chasing a ball is a little below his specialty, thanks. He especially enjoys playing with anyone who likes to shake things up and pull tricks on him. He's an equal opportunity player - he makes sure everyone takes a turn throwing the ball!

Jake has always been a competent life guard. From the time he was a puppy he parks himself next to the tub until the moment you step out. He insists on joining you in the shower and will jump in and swim along in the pool or lake. He cajoles us to go swimming with him; as soon as you remove a piece of clothing or take off your hat he thinks it's a signal to swim and there is no choice, you have to go in!

Jake has had some rough times in his life. He had hip surgery at 9 months old and broke a leg when he collided with a Mastiff at the park just 6 month later. Even through the tough times his joie de vie never quit, he's always a happy dog.

Jake is incredibly smart, he has that sweet way of tilting his head when you speak to him. We are certain he understands everything you say to him and easily knows more than 200 words including places and names.

He loves small children, is highly respectful of cats and never bothers squirrels - except when explicitly told to chase the ones destroying the garden - or birds, though he will run through a flock of seagulls on the beach!

And if anyone speaks to him while he's on a walk he happily will stop and offer his ears for a scratch.

He may be small but he's truly a wonder dog!
