Zephyra was rescued by the incredible people at Ocean Acres Animal Sanctuary in Barbados. She was living in a place where several dogs were kept caged, unfed and neglected. At just 8 months of age, she had already delivered a small litter of puppies. Unfortunately this is a story that is all too common in the islands. Within a few weeks of her rescue, a very kind travel buddy flew with her on Air Canada. Once in Ottawa, she stayed in Sit With Me foster care where her loving Foster Mom gave her a first taste of real safety. We adopted her just 3 months ago but she has completely stolen our hearts. She is playful yet quiet. Loving yet independent. And her confidence grows daily with her walks on NCC trails and Agility training. Somehow she has managed to put her horrific past behind her and trust us. Now she loves every human and every dog she meets. Her life has been turned around by so many selfless people. We are proud to say she enjoys the Five Freedoms of Animal Welfare as she should. When people ask what kind of dog she is I say, “100% Adorable.” She is just 13 pounds but she fills a room with her personality. Zephyra translates to mean “like the warm west wind” and she sure is our ray of sunshine in this cold winter. We can’t wait to be playing in the fenced yard with her come summer. It will be such fun to run around with her while she has her zoomies. #adoptdontshop
