Big Bubba Dutch learned about love and loss the hard way. Last year, Bubba and wife, Sandy, moved to Oregon with Steve and me. Bubba was always a "real estate baron," having at least two boxes for himself and Sandy. Once Bubba moved into the bigger aviary in Oregon, he wanted all of the nesting boxes. His effort to keep them all left Sandy, an arthritic bird, on her own too much, and her condition deteriorated badly. Ultimately, we decided to euthanize Sandy. Bubba was devastated, but he remarried and now lives in just one box (and the bottom box) with beautiful new wife, Allie.
