One of Neville's many hobbies is picking up this ribbon and placing it in strange places. For example, he will put it on top of the TV, on top of a lamp, or (more often) leave it lying on the floor near a high-up perch. I'm pretty sure he sees it as a choice piece of nesting material, but as the ribbon is several times longer than he is, it's a bit hard for him to maneuver, though I do enjoy watching his attempts.
