Bucky

Share a short bio about your pet!
About ten years ago, our son met Bucky in one of the most unexpected places imaginable—Woodruff Park in downtown Atlanta. A group of people at a concert, who described themselves as "train hoppers," told him they were looking for a home for their dog because, as they put it, "he wasn't very good at hopping trains." Tough to hop trains when you are 75 pounds!

It turned out Bucky had quite a history. We eventually tracked down his original owner near Shiloh, Georgia, who told us that Bucky had wandered onto his doorstep with another stray dog. As an Ohio State fan, he named him Buckeye. That name didn't last long in our house, and before long he became simply Bucky.

Today, Bucky is the heart of our family. His soulful eyes and gentle spirit have a way of making everyone feel at ease. He's incredibly sweet, but he's also a loyal protector who always lets us know when someone is near the house.

He happily shares his home with our two cats, Nova and Copper, and spends his days doing what he loves most—curling up beside us on the couch during movie nights or napping under the desk while someone is working.

Looking back, it's hard to believe that the dog who wasn't meant for life on the rails found exactly where he belonged.

If your pet was a type of ice cream, what would they be and why?
Pralines & Cream-This is a rich buttery mix and very sweet!

How would your pet celebrate PAWS Atlanta's 60th anniversary?
.
If Bucky could celebrate PAWS Atlanta's 60th Anniversary, he would probably keep it simple.

He'd start the day with a walk, stopping to sniff every interesting smell along the way. Then he'd happily greet every volunteer, wagging his tail as if to say, "Thank you for giving dogs like me a second chance."

If he could make a birthday wish for PAWS Atlanta, it wouldn't be for more treats—although he certainly wouldn't turn those down, as he loves his daily Denta Stick! His wish would be that every homeless dog and cat finds what he found: a family that sees past the uncertainty, opens its heart, and says, "You belong with us."

Then, after accepting a few belly rubs and maybe a special biscuit, Bucky would quietly curl up beside the people he loves most, grateful that his greatest adventure wasn't riding trains after all—it was finding his way home.
