Rio the cat showed up on my front doorstep during last year's Summer Olympics that were taking place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Getting her to my veterinarian for a spay surgery felt like I was competing in an Olympic event, hence the name “Rio”. Fortunately I managed to get it done as evidenced by one of her ears being slightly docked (my vet's way of letting everyone know that she has been "fixed"). Rio is very timid and leery of just about everything but she’s very, very sweet. She came out of nowhere one day and was hanging out on my front doorstep when I pulled into my driveway from work. She ran away the first time that I brought her food but warmed up to me quickly after. She's very "delicate" and sensitive but I could tell she wanted to trust and was longing for a friend. She was thin and for the first few weeks almost transparent….I would see her from across the yard and it was almost like looking at a little ghost kitty. I don't know that I'm a "cat person", per se, but I'm most definitely a "Rio person" and I love her very much. We’ve both come a long way and she seems really grateful to have a home of her own.
