Pet's Story
Zuko was adopted in 2010 from PAWS while I was in the Navy - and he was by my side for our 13 years together. Road trips, beach trips, chilling on the coach, hiking mountains, guiding foster dogs, and protecting my niece and nephew from anything scarier than an overzealous aunt - he was my everything. He was my support animal that got me through some very rough times both in and after military service. He even came to school with me when I went back to college and came on several field trips - notably one where half the class couldn't find the meetup spot and we were lost several miles away in the woods. He's defended us from loose dogs that tried to attack his younger, smaller 'sister' Katara, and from people trying to break into my house at 4AM. Unfortunately, Zuko developed canine cognitive disorder earlier this year and we had to make the tough decision to put him to sleep a few weeks ago. But this will always be how I remember him - fearless. Forever my adventure buddy.
