Pet's Story or Bio
Charlie was born May 13, 2012 and was a free Craigslist puppy. When we saw the post about his momma being pregnant, we knew we had to rescue one of the puppies, even though at the time we weren't allowed to have pets. He did 6 months of Search & Rescue training but we decided his time was better spent hiking, swimming, chasing balls, and being loved on. (He's still fun to play "hide-and-seek" with since he vividly remembers the word "FIND"). Charlie can sit, stay, spin, fetch, lay down, close doors, hold a bone on his nose then catch it, high five, shake, and catch balls flying at the speed of a bullet. He was trained using positive reinforcement instead of the usual "bad boy" and "no". We quickly learned that if you threw a HUGE party for him when he peed outside, he wanted nothing more than to pee outside every time. He loves car rides, dog parks, and events that dogs can join. He hates his nails clipped and baths. His ears move in different ways, depending on his mood. He can cross them, lay them down, and point them both outward. Our vet told us at 3 months old to not count on his ears ever standing since they were "too big"....HA! Charlie went up in weight by 10lbs per month until he was 7 months old. He recently reached 91lbs and he's incredibly lean. He has six toes on both his back feet that we absolutely adore and chose not to have removed. He howls on command and it's the most beautiful sound you've ever heard. He cuddles, kisses, and even throws your coffee out of your hand if he wants you to pet him. He's allergic to chicken so he gets Blue Buffalo Lamb & Rice....4 cups a day. He loves children and worries when 'his' are out of his sight. He has been a part of the "Big Brother" program for the past few years and never complained a bit. Foster dogs come through and he teaches them how to play, love, and calm down. He is 65% shepherd, 12% chow, and 23% rescue. He has more spots that show up on his tongue every time we look at him. Charlie lets the children dress him up and show him off around the house. He has the patience of a saint. He is adored by every person that has ever met him. He's our "big bear". We think he's pretty close to a perfect dog.
