Who says a cat and a dog can’t be best friends?!

Meet Hazel (cat) and Luna (dog).

Luna is my best friend. This December we’ll have been together 12 years. We’ve seen 31 states!

Hazel was taken to the shelter with her cat companion when their person died. A kind neighbor took care of the two cats for a bit and tried to find them a home, but Hazel hid and would not interact with anyone—she was no doubt so, so scared and sad. Her feline buddy was adopted quickly from the shelter and Hazel was left behind.

Since joining our family in 2016, Hazel has blossomed. She has also executed a consistent and relentless campaign to make Luna love her. As the youngest and oldest members of our household (respectively), Hazy and Lu are quite the pair. Hazel will run into a room, dart under Luna, and disappear before any of us knows what’s happened. I’ve also seen Hazel take a flying leap OVER Lu’s back! They often nap close to one another. They eat meals side-by-side.
