Blue, a long-haired dachshund, was bought from one breeder by another to be bred because of his rare blue coat. Unfortunately, it was discovered that he carried the gene for alopecia (common in blue coats) and began losing his fur at about four months old. Having recently lost our dachshund Harley at 18 we were considering a rescue. We located him in Ohio and after seeing him via Zoom, I flew up to retrieve him at eight months old. He had three previous families pass him up. He has a big bark (we are working on) when encountering strangers but absolutely melts your heart once he knows you.
