Mission:
Founded in 1953, The Humane Society of the Piedmont (HSP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing pet-overpopulation, providing assistance to pet owners in need, and reducing unnecessary euthanasia in local shelters. Our programs include Planned Pethood, a low cost spay, neuter and wellness clinic, Fill the Bowl, which provides dog food to families who cannot afford to feed their pets, Furry Friends Fund which provides financial assistance to sick animals, and our Education Program which visits local schools and teaches children responsible pet ownership.
History of Organization:
In 2015 the HSP was responsible for subsidizing 6,892 spay and neuter surgeries via its program Planned Pethood. Of these, 2,900 were shelter animals transported by the HSP vehicle.
In 2016 the State of North Carolina confirmed that HSP is the organization with the largest impact on animal welfare in central North Carolina, with a 200% growth in the last 5 years.
Since 2015 we have had a 13.9% surgical growth and a 35% growth in wellness services. This has allowed us to reach out to more animals in our community.
