Rescue Story
Our hearts sank when we picked up a sweet 10 year old pug named Princess Leia.

We wish it wasn’t true, but over the years, we have seen many pugs that have been abused and neglected. It sickened us to know this sweet pug girl had been suffering for a long time. Her amazing foster mom took her straight to the ER to be evaluated and immediately started on treatment. Sadly, she had numerous untreated health issues. We prayed it was not too late to save her and we wanted to give her the good life she deserved.

Her health issues included a huge open gaping wound on her rear-end and an extremely high white blood count. She was anemic and full of infection. The infection was at least partly due to the abscessed dog bite wounds that she has suffered on her back. She also had cigarette burns on her face and mast cell tumors all over her little body.

Despite the obvious pain Princess Leia was suffering, this little doll was filled with non-stop kisses for her care takers. Through all she suffered, she remained affectionate and loving, aka “Pug”. Even though her little spark was almost gone her beautiful spirit continued to shine through the storm.

The vets initially said she had about 2 weeks to live. Thanks to the dedicated support of her vet tech foster mom she enjoyed 4 months of non-stop loving care. She was able to check so many fun things off her Hospice Bucket List – she had pool parties with friends, a trip to the beach, fancy dinners, and more. Her foster mom even made her this amazing flower crown to showcase her beauty. She touched many lives during her short time with PROoF and Princess Leia will never be forgotten!
