Rescue Story
We rescued Abby (former name Judy, though at the time she had no idea what her name was) from
an irresponsible breeding situation in July 2013 in CT.

Abby, then age 5, had been kept in a crate in a basement for most of her life. She had literally never touched grass. Abby came to me with many health problems and we addressed them all, as they came, to give her the healthiest and best possible life. (Our pet insurance company actually dropped her, as she had so many conditions.)

Her expressive and loving personality emerged almost immediately as she quickly learned to be part of a “regular family” and loving home. When we moved from CT to FL in 2014, Abby was soon diagnosed with protein losing enteropathy and spent a week at UF in Gainesville. I made the 4 hour round trip each day to be with her, even if it meant only a half hour of cuddles. Her veterinarian, upon her discharge, told me “I didn’t think Abby would leave here alive.”

Abby brought so much joy to so many, those who knew her personally and those who, from around the world, grew to love her on my professional author Facebook page, Jennifer Niland Wright.

This little bundle of pug changed so many lives, and though she dealt with so many painful health issues, she spread continual joy. I’m truly blessed to have the honor of being her Mom for 6 years and giving her all that I could so she could live her best possible life.

Abby was my happy side kick at the 2018 Pugsgiving.

Abby passed away rather suddenly, from a variety of health complications, on June 30, 2019.

This is one of my favorite pictures of her, she was learning to live the Florida life, on a cool evening, just the two of us, at the intracoastal, in September 2014.

Abby had a truly rotten first half of her life, and I’d be humbled and honored to have her included in your 2021 calendar, as both a tribute to her and as an example of the fact that, with rescue, you cannot change the world by saving one dog, but for that one dog, his/her world is changed forever.
