In the fall of 2019, a tiny piglet was spotted running for his life near Smithfield, NC—chased by dogs and clearly in danger. A kind woman named Wendy rushed to save him, suspecting he had escaped from a nearby commercial hog farm.

When we at Jenna and Friends Animal Sanctuary in Chapel Hill heard about the lost piglet, we knew we had to help. He had already beaten the odds—he deserved a chance at a happy life.

When Petey first arrived, he was scared but resilient. Based on his size and condition, we believe he fell through a vent on a transport truck—a tragic but not uncommon event. That he survived and made it to safety was nothing short of miraculous.

Today, Petey is a strong, social, and very handsome adult pig. He lives happily among a herd of potbellied pigs, despite being much larger. He’s deeply loved by his herd and every visitor who meets him. He’s mischievous, playful, and living life on his terms.

Petey is more than a rescue—he’s an ambassador. His story opens hearts and minds, helping people see pigs not as products, but as individuals who deserve kindness and freedom.
