Meet my Foxhound rescue, Fern! My partner and I adopted Fern from Orange County Animal Shelter in July of 2023. At the time, we thought she was a beagle mix but her DNA test said she was 100% American Foxhound. We named her after my dad’s favorite book, Where the Red Fern Grows, in which a boy adopts 2 loyal hound dogs who go on incredible adventures with him.

Fern ironically is the opposite of adventurous. While most hound dogs can sniff, run, and howl for hours, Fern prefers being curled up on our couch or bed, only getting up if someone opens the treat bag. She lives with our cat, Zahra, who enjoys lovingly licking and biting Fern’s ears. They have a typical sibling relationship, sometimes snuggling and sometimes terrorizing each other.

Fern brings so much joy into our lives, and we are so thankful for her every single day! We hope you vote for this sweet, adorable face, because who wouldn’t??
