When Second Chance rescued Pepsi, he had an open wound on the back of his neck that simply wouldn't heal. It took 10 months, countless vet visits, and a tremendous amount of love and dedication to save him.
Throughout his treatment, the veterinarian and her staff completely fell in love with him. Even while they were working on his wound, Pepsi would purr. He has always had a beautiful spirit—sweet, loving, and just the right amount of spicy.
My daughter, who volunteered with Second Chance, kept telling me about this special cat who wore a shirt and loved dogs. At the time, I had two dogs and absolutely no plans to get a cat. But I had to meet him. The moment I did, I fell in love.
June 11 marks his third "Gotcha Day."
This year brought another health challenge, with complications and, once again, a wound that was slow to heal. The veterinarians and I were worried. But true to form, Pepsi persevered with the same beautiful spirit that has carried him through so much.
In August, he'll celebrate his seventh birthday.
The truth is, I think Pepsi rescued me more than I rescued him. I am forever grateful that Second Chance gave him the second chance he deserved.
