Squirrel was rescued more than 10 years ago from volunteers at Petco, who bring shelter dogs every Saturday to the pet store in the hope that these shelter dogs find a forever home. My children and I would go and walk the shelter dogs on Saturdays in an effort to ease their anxiety and make them more social during a potential adoption process. That is how we met Squirrel. She instantly became a beloved member of our family and has been my son’s constant companion at every turn for over a decade. She is famous on the water (my son works for Sea Tow and Tiki Tours), at the College of Charleston (she is the official mascot of the sailing team) and even among her neighbors downtown. Squirrel is loved by all -simply because she is such a wonderful dog. She is loyal, patient, funny, articulate, charismatic, grateful and kind, but most of all - Squirrel is a true example of a life changed by the kindness of others and she continues to be the gift that keeps on giving. Once in a lifetime, you may be fortunate to know a dog that changes your life forever and Squirrel has done that for so many including my son Connor. It would mean the world for her sweet face to be on the can of such a noble cause. She is a mixed breed rescue and would be the perfect advocate for so many others that need a home.
